These product renders represent the colmination of a two year journey in which all product componentry 3D CAD files where either recovered and repaired from tooling or production partners, or completely rebuilt off 2D drawings or physical components.

 

 

The Aqualuma Highbay High Output leverages the housing design of the Uplight to couple on an externally facing 240w Meanwell driver.

By removing the internal driver of the standard version, allows the LED chips to be run harder without increasing their junction temperatures, which ultimately dictate the lifetime expectancy of the chips.

The Hgih Output has been specifically created for high pole masts for suburban sports facilities and carparks.

 

I was commissioned to take the initial Kimber Komb prototype, and develop it further.
The primary task was to resolve a few underlying mechanical issues. These included; refinement and inclusion of a second mechanical guide such that the blade would remain vertical and follow a uniform path across the comb; adjusting the gear ratios to ensure smooth motion; increasing the blade rake to reduce cutting friction; and insertion of a secondary spring which would return the blade to the start.
The second task was to remodel all of the components for ease of manufacture.
And lastly, to create a more elegant and ergonomic external forms.

 

Turtle Pac called on my services to turn their prototype of an Aircraft Long Range Fuel Bladder into 3D CAD models. This distinct product was the first of its kind worldwide to fit in any spare seat of light aircraft or helicopters, which enabled these craft to access long range abilities without expensive re-engineering for additional steel fuel tanks. A full set of fabrication drawings was also produced from these to assist their certification and compliance process with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

 

Working in-house on a full time basis, I worked closely with, and under direction from the Project Manager and Mechanical Engineer to complete this project by the given deadlines. I was responsible for 3D modelling of the Screens, Fins and Awnings. These were then detailed in fabrication drawings for sign off by the Consulting Structural Engineer, and were then delivered to the Fabrication Team for cutting, welding, assembly, painting and transportation to the Townsville Central site. I was responsible for all file creation and management. This included preparation and delivery to the water-jet, laser cutting and other sheet metal fabrication being outsourced. As an importer and wholesaler of bathroom products, Glenn Powell of Who Bathroom Warehouse identified a gap in the market between the entry level Chinese product and the medium quality designer product. I was brought on board to design and document the fixtures and fittings of the new price point. A fabrication package was created which included 3D models, 2D detailed drawings including the Bill of Materials. Glenn used this package to source samples from China prior to going into preliminary production.

 

Belt Scan contracted my services to ensure their product looked commensurate with the price tag.
The Belt Guard and its suite of products provide a full suite of conveyor belt monitoring and condition monitoring systems for use in the mining industry.
It was the third generation of technology to be released onto the market by my client, who had a tireless desire to make this product, peerless from the outset. My role centred about the user interface of the software CPU.
I was responsible for creation of all CAD files that were required to create the user interface panel through manufacturing methods including laser cutting, machining, anodizing and UV printing. Working closely with my clients’ chief engineer, I also provided input into the mechanical elements of the product suite.

 

I was contracted to provide 3D modelling and design assistance by Project Manager Tim Stevenson. The 3D modelling aspect spanned 5 configurations of cubicle layouts with 2 types of roofs to suit each, and the client had requested these to be deliverable in one 3D Assembly. Tim had a strong vision to deliver to the highest level of durability, vandal resistance, and design refinement. My role centered around the structure, roofing and signage with design exploration conducted into many other areas of the project. Once the 3D model had been refined to a high state, the Client took over to construct a prototype with which to identify outstanding components requiring resolution. The Aqualuma Highbay with Uplight was created specifically for a key client in the big box retail environment, where studies have shown a negative correlation between un-lit ceilings and shopper comfort, and therefore time spent in the store. The Uplight merges seamlessly with all versions of the existing Aqualuma High Bay, which continues to provide up to 25,600 lumens in down-lighting, and simultaneously 2,000 lumens up-lighting.
Engineered with excellent internal heat sinking and external heat shedding allows best in class Lumileds Luxeon LEDs to be run at optimal levels whilst well below the manufacturer’s maximum junction temperature recommendation, which extends the life expectancy of the LEDs. It has a wall plug efficacy (energy to visible light) of up to 144 lumens per watt, and a life expectancy well in excess of 100,000 hours.
In 2016 the Australian Good Design Awards selected the High Bay with Uplight as a Winner in the Product Design – Commercial and Industrial category.
